New Horizons

The Working Group on Development and Peace (FriEnt) hosted the international conference „New Horizons. Linking Transitional Justice and Development for Sustainable Peace“ on the 27th and 28th January 2010 in Berlin. The eight governmental and non-governmental member organisations of FriEnt have been actively involved in the design and realisation of the conference. They invited partners from more than 20 countries to the conference, organised and facilitated conference workshops and shared their experiences and lessons learnt from projects around the world.

The goal of the conference was to promote a holistic approach to human rights, justice and peace in post conflict societies. More particularly, the conference explored synergies between the fields of development cooperation and transitional justice as well as possibilities to integrate economic and social rights into transitional justice interventions.

The more than 100 participants identified existing gaps and developed practical recommendations. The conference explored synergies between the fields of development cooperation and transitional justice as well as possibilities to integrate economic and social rights into transitional justice interventions.

A detailed documentation of the conference is in the making. In the meantime you can listen to the Podcast of the conference or interviews with conference participants. Under “Workshops and Papers” you can find the keynote speech and papers of the panellists and the workshop speakers. Additional resources on Transitional Justice and Development are collected under “Documents”.
