Collection of data concerning landgrabbing and conflict
| Evangelischer Entwicklungsdienst | 2011
Conflicts over land use, fair access to land and rights of tenure already played a major role in many crisis regions in the past. Under the present heightened conditions, land is becoming an even more explosive issue. The prevention of escalating violence and the constructive transformation of land conflicts therefore pose major challenges for development cooperation in many cases.
Throughout the last years the issue of landgrabbing received increasing recognition on the international agenda. Several case studies, policy papers and articles were published and describe experiences and insights. Those documents help to understand the challenges and risks of the mechanism. But systematic empirical data are still lacking, also due to the high intransparency of the majority of the land deals. With the intention of creating a certain overview about already existing material and to make use of the already available resources, but also to help to identify further gaps and areas for further indepth investigation, we collected data and links and draw them together into a list. The list consists of 96 documents and links of publications which show the nexus between 'landgrabbing and conflict'.
The list does not claim completeness and ends with publication date 30th March 2011. All links and short summaries in the list are shown in their original language, so either german or english and shall serve as data collection and pool of resources for further use.
