Review of political Missions 2011

| Center on International Cooperation | 2011

One year ago, the Center on International Cooperation (CIC) broke new ground with its Review of Political Missions 2010 , the first independent and comprehensive review of the work of political missions in the field.

CIC's second Review of Political Missions tracks strategic trends and deployments for more than sixty political missions by the UN and regional organizations, including the EU, OSCE, OAS, and the AU. This year’s edition increased the coverage of non-UN political missions, especially those overseen by the African Union such as the organization's twelve liaison offices across the continent.

The report also underscores the contributions of Special Envoys trying to resolve political impasses. It highlights the role that political missions play in combating organized crime and transnational threats, while also underscoring their work in preventing and responding to electoral violence and unconstitutional changes of government.
