New Horizons
Linking Development Cooperation and Transitional Justice
for Sustainable Peace
International Conference
27th – 28th January, 2010
Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Haus, Berlin
The Working Group on Peace and Development (FriEnt) hosted the international conference „New Horizons. Linking Transitional Justice and Development for Sustainable Peace“ on the 27th and 28th January 2010 in Berlin. The eight governmental and non-governmental member organisations of FriEnt have been actively involved in the design and realisation of the conference. They invited partners from more than 20 countries to the conference, organised and facilitated conference workshops and shared their experiences and lessons learnt from projects around the world.
The goal of the conference was to promote a holistic approach to human rights, justice and peace in post conflict societies. More particularly, the conference explored synergies between the fields of development cooperation and transitional justice as well as possibilities to integrate economic and social rights into transitional justice interventions.
Around 100 policy makers and practitioners from various countries participated in the two day conference, which encompassed an introductory panel and an open space session as well as a series of five parallel workshops, each on a particular sector of development cooperation and transitional justice. In a final panel, recommendations to the development and transitional justice communities were discussed. Moreover, a public event summed up and broadened the discussion towards a wider public.
The present conference report is an issue paper that focuses on some main points for follow-up. You may also listen to the Podcast of the conference and additional interviews with conference participants.
