Learning together: strengthening social cohesion in Iraq through training for young people | Kevin McElvaney | GIZ Promoting sustainable peace in crisis contexts is one of the key challenges the international community is facing. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) accepts this challenge and strengthens with its instrument Transitional Development Assistance "Peaceful and inclusive communities".
With the new factsheet in English, French and German, the BMZ supports its implementing partners in planning and implementing projects that build peace. For more peace, it is crucial to strengthen social cohesion among the population during and after crises.
BMZ’s goal is to enable population groups and local structures to resolve conflicts and their causes at the local level in a target group-oriented and peaceful manner.
Three steps need to be considered by implementing partners:
The basis is a peace and conflict analysis (PCA).
All projects are designed to be at least conflict sensitive.
Projects must implement direct peacebuilding measures to sustainably strengthen social cohesion in crisis contexts.
"Peaceful and inclusive communities" is one of the four fields of action of BMZ’s Transitional Development Assistance.
BMZ's implementing partners combine measures of different sectors to strengthen the resilience of people and local structures to manage crises.
